Amid the changing dynamics of the film industry and shifting audience tastes, how do four filmmakers, scholar, and film festival director from Asia explore and observe their unique voices and Asian identity within this new context? This is a question we all continue to reflect on.
Timmy mentioned the concept of Inter-Asian connections—focusing on the relationships between Asian films, moving beyond national boundaries. He emphasised the need for more collaboration and connectivity, where Hong Kong could position as a hub for outward connections within Asia. In terms of storytelling, the goal is to make local Hong Kong stories visible to the international audience, breaking away from relatively isolated production models. This aligns with the idea of crafting distinct voices and styles that immediately make people think, “Wow, this is definitely your film.” By embracing universal values that transcend borders, the world can witness the multifaceted nature of Asian cinema.
